No. It cannot, and any seller telling you otherwise is either mistaken or misrepresenting what they are selling.
This is the most common misunderstanding in the channel market, and it causes people to overpay and then panic during handover.
Why it cannot transfer
An AdSense account is tied to a verified individual – a legal name, an address, and tax information filed with Google. It is a payment relationship between Google and a person.
Google’s AdSense terms are explicit that accounts are non-transferable. A transferred AdSense account is a terms violation on top of the channel transfer, and accounts that change hands get closed, taking any unpaid balance with them.
What does transfer
| Transfers | Does not transfer |
|---|---|
| The channel and all its videos | The AdSense account |
| Subscriber base and watch history | Pending unpaid earnings |
| YPP approval status | The seller’s tax information |
| Analytics history | The seller’s payment method |
YPP status transfers. This is the important one. The channel keeps Partner Programme approval through an ownership change. You attach your own AdSense to a channel that is already approved – you do not reapply and you do not need 1,000 subscribers again.
How the handover actually works
A YouTube channel is owned through a Brand Account, and Brand Accounts support multiple managers. That is the mechanism.
- The seller adds you as a manager of the Brand Account
- You accept from your own Google account
- The seller promotes you to primary owner
- A 7-day waiting period applies. Google enforces this and it cannot be skipped
- After the wait, you remove the previous owner
- You link your own AdSense in YouTube Studio
Steps four and five are where buyers get nervous, reasonably: for seven days the seller still has access. This is exactly why escrow is worth requesting on a channel purchase – payment should not release until step five is complete.
If a channel is on a personal Google account rather than a Brand Account, insist on migration to a Brand Account first. Handing over a personal Google account means taking the seller’s Gmail, recovery phone and everything else attached to that identity.
Will monetization survive?
Usually, if the handover is clean and you do not immediately give YouTube a reason to re-review.
Triggers a review: changing name and niche at once, uploading noticeably different content immediately, a burst of uploads after a quiet period, reused content.
Does not: continuing the existing pattern, normal upload cadence, attaching a new AdSense account.
The advice that works is boring: take ownership, attach AdSense, keep doing what the channel already did for a few weeks before changing anything.
What can still go wrong, and how to avoid it
The channel is on a personal Google account. This is the one to walk away from. Transferring means taking the seller’s entire Google identity – their Gmail, their recovery phone, their other services. Insist the channel is migrated to a Brand Account first. It is a standard, reversible operation and any competent seller can do it.
The seller removes themselves too early. If they leave the Brand Account before you are promoted to primary owner, the transfer stalls and recovering it means a support case. The order matters: add you as manager, promote you to owner, wait out the hold, then remove them.
AdSense is linked to the seller’s account and never unlinked. Revenue keeps flowing to them. You unlink theirs and link yours in YouTube Studio once ownership is complete – confirm the payments page shows your AdSense ID before you consider the sale done.
A monetization review triggers on the change. Uncommon on a clean handover, likelier if you change the channel name, the niche and the upload cadence in the same week. Keep the channel doing what it was doing for a few weeks.
Tax details, if you are outside the seller’s country
Your AdSense account carries your own tax information, and you submit it yourself – a W-9 if you are a US person, a W-8BEN if you are not. YouTube withholds US tax on the US-sourced portion of earnings, at a rate that depends on whether your country has a treaty with the United States.
The UK has such a treaty, which typically reduces withholding on US-sourced earnings. None of that transfers with the channel; it attaches to whoever owns the AdSense account. Speak to an accountant about your own position rather than relying on a seller’s summary of it.
Before you buy
- Is the channel on a Brand Account? If not, how do they propose transferring it?
- Are there active Content ID claims or strikes? Ask them to open the page.
- Do they understand AdSense stays with them? If they say it transfers, they either have not done this before or hope you have not.
Every channel we list is a Brand Account transfer with the 7-day window built into the handover timeline, and the AdSense position is stated on every monetized YouTube listing.
